The Discovery Center
Our second assignment is to design a Discovery Center for our site, Kampung Morten at Malacca. Our client is the local authority KKM. In this project, we are required to design a functional and poetic double story building which included cafe, exhibition halls, multipurpose hall, contemplation deck, toilet, surau, lobby, reception, briefing space, and design the landscape as well. This is the first time we designing a real lie functioning building for public.
During my site visit, I'm honored to visit 'loteng' which is the attic of a traditional Malay house. The moment I went up onto the platform, I'm suddenly sees the teenagers are lying and chi-chatting of their day while the kids are running around. I realize I've shared a memory which does not belongs to me. This is what and how I want my visitors to learn about Kampung Morten as a Living Heritage.

Reflection of Mine
Regrading to the TGC, I found 'Thinking and Problem Solving Skills'.
The problem was how to design a roof with bueatiful and logical terminologies. We are good at designing stuff using aesthetic but not in a logical ways. We always though that we are just at the beginning of the journey of the architecture. Thus, logical building and also climatic study are not needed for our building. Yet, ADIII is the course that force you to realize and start picking up some construction skills and not just finding details online to fake it.
